Let's Save Hazel Hawkins Hospital!
We need a robust hospital, owned by San Benito County, not a private corporation located hundreds of miles away with the goal of profits for its shareholders or to change the culture of our community.
An Invitation to the Board and Administration
At any time you would like to refute, comment or add anything to this website, we will gladly accomodate your request. This website was created only to educate the public, especially because we believe you have earned (borrowing from U.S. Constitutional law) strict scrutiny in how the San Benito County Health District got to where it is today and any deals you attempt to enter into. Our single mutual goal with you: Save Hazel Hawkins Hospital. Our goal: save HHH for the San Benito County community.
The Board Kills Keeping Hazel Hawkins Hospital Ours - Time to Take Action
At it's meeting on June 5, 2024, the elected board of the San Benito Health Care District voted unanimously to only negotiate with Insight (read about them here). What the board was really doing was eliminating the public option - partnering with the County of San Benito to keep Hazel Hawkins Hospital ours.
They ignored the will of the people. Over 90% of the doctors who practice at Hazel Hawkins Hospital said no to Insight, but the board ignored them.
The nurses are paying for several bill boards around the county that said no to Insight, but the board ignored them.
The community has spoken at several board members, saying no to Insight, but the board ignored them.
Those in the know knew that the the fix was in before the vote was ever taken. We should not tolerate it.
The board whitewashed their own minutes several times to change the criteria necessary to be at the table, changing the narrative to fit Insight.
Insight has publically stated they intend to employ executive management after they purchase the hospital, giving the administration reasons to push the public towards Insight by eliminating the public option. The same administration that created the mess to begin with.
Yes, shake your head.
The bottom line: The Board and Administration should have sought a COMMUNITY BASED solution instead of spending millions of dollars on financial and legal advisors, and then more on a special election that could have been plowed into the financial needs of Hazel Hawkins Hospital. It's not to late to stop them in their tracks, come together as a community, and save Hazel Hawkinds Hospital for us, the people paying for it every day in our taxes and generous donations.
